the Whispering Forest

Tylia starts to gather a few things on this morn she decided this was the day to leave on her journey. She gathered what she could in food and water, potions and a weapon.
Well rested now she headed out towards the tavern to see if anyone else wanted to go.

"Bark , Bark Baaaaaarrooooooooaahhhh!"

Tylia looks around the tavern area and found everyone still sleeping there so she went to the barracks.

"Hanz, Oro? are you ready yet?" Tylia called out just outside the door not wanting to disturb anyone else around.

"Just one more moment..." states Hanz, "I still have one more mace to put on." Hanz looked less like a Holy Avenger and more like a moving pile of weapons. "Let's see, eight maces, three sheilds, two pickaxes, and a great hammer. That should do." He stands up with only the slightest strain visable.

"I am ready. Oro?"

Orogom moves around, adjusting his travel-baldric. Once it is set comfortably, he begins to sheath his weapons..."Let's see," he mutters, ticking off the weapons as he sheaths them, "Short swords, enchanted dagger, family dagger, spare dagger, throwing knives, and..." Orogom hunts around his bed area before looking underneath and pulling out two long swords, which he sheaths in the appropriate spots on his back. Double-checking his pouch to be sure he will have room for anything interesting he finds, he winks at Hanz and steps out of the cabin ((OOG: We are in the cabins, not the barracks)). "I'm ready to go...isn't there one or two more coming as well?" he asks of Tylia, blinking his three eyes in the morning light.

A dark cloaked man heads up the path toward you. His hood not on reveals a large tattoo over his right eye. Immediately you recognize the individual as Nox.

Hello Orogom, looks like you are packed for a long venture. Are you traveling somewhere? If you are heading to the Vedican Stronghold, could you deliver a message for me?

Smiling at Nox, Orogom glances at Tylia and replies, "If Tylia will allow us the detour, I will happily deliver it, though it may be a few days as we are going on foot...or will we be finding a caravan, Ty?"

Another cloaked figure emerges to interrupt the conversation......

"Good day Nox.....good day to you all"....Zeesa addresses the group....

"Well Nox it would appear that my commrades here are off to adventure in the whispering forest as it where........." Zeesa chuckles aloud.......

"And it would appear that they are definetely not taking the stealth route as they have brought an entire weapon arsenal along with them" Zeesa points to the Hanz who is fully adorned in weapons.

"I can't believe you all are doing this! This stronghold has truly gone mad!! Lets hope that the Gods find favor in you all and you return safely. I am sure that Tylia has informed you all of the dangers that lay before you on this journey????" Zeesa looks to Tylia with concern.

"Oh Oro befor I forget - You did clear this with Lord Elecsirt and found a replacement for you in the Tavern while you are gone right? After all you will be away for quite a few weeks!"

Orogom smiles at Zeesa and replies, "No, I do not have a replacement, however, the kegs are empty until I can make more ale, the well is dry, so there's no water to serve, and Xollio's tea seems to be well recieved and he gives that away freely. However, perhaps I should leave note to a temporary replacement, give me ten minutes please." Orogom hops back into his cabin and, anybody who peers through the door sees him scribbling a note on a piece of parchment. When he is done, he comes back out and attaches the note to the door of Xollio's cabin with a bit of string. Xollio's name is written across the front. "There, that should do it. Are we ready then?"

((OOG: Xollio - I will PM you the message))

(Tylia nods and accepts, looking to Oro and Hanz wondering if they would fall down with all that weapondry...)
"we should be traveling light, this is only a recon mission."

(Tylia looks to Nox.) "We can stop at the Keep first before entering...besides I would like to resuply there and perhaps visit the Library there to see if i can find some ....information first."

(Tylia turns to head out.) "Oro, if you can spare me another dagger I would be most grateful. perhaps you or Hanz can show me how to use it aswell?"
(Tylia stops short suddenly to look around.)
"where is Vica? I would hate to leave her behind we would need her great skills."

Tylia then turns to Zeeza. Her eyes stared straight into her friends eyes. resting her right hand upon Zeeza's shoulder.

"We will be fine. (Tylia said tenderly.) Both Lords needs this info. you know this. Laroon has blessed us and this mission. We will return do not worry, and thankyou for your concern ol friend. Please remember to dream send us if there are any changes needed."

Tylia then speaks in Elven:
May the Goddess Laroon be with you my sister. Stay safe and Live well.

Tylia then stands straight to look around once more, (in common tounge)..."where is Vica?"

"BBBARK, BAAARRK, Baarrrroooooooaaahhhh, BBBAAARRRK BBBAAARRRK!!!!!" Tylia calls out to Vica.

"Oro, Hanz I would like to see if Vica would like to go first before leaving...I have not seen or heard from her since i had first asked her...have any of you seen her?"

(looking to Hanz with a smirk upon her face)

"Hang back? with all those weapons you will do nothing more...you will not be able to keep up...please loose some of them Laroon will protect us as will your god as well. trust in them you will see all will be well."

"Besides if nessasary we can purchase new weapondry at the Keep. So please rethink your weapons."

Tylia then questions...
"Did the two of you have room enough for food and water? perhaps healing potions or two? Like Zeeza said the Whispering forest is very dangerous and a very long journey...i do not attend to stop at any Inn's or caravans...we will stay to the wood were we will not be seen with any luck."

"Zeeza can you please let Vica know that we waited for her and if she would like to come along with us I plan to head towards the Keep first...she may catch up with us there...we will travel slow for the next two days to see if she can catch up to us but after that we will travel fast... so after the 2nd day it would be best that she go straight to the keep without stoping..."

Tylia then turns to start this new adventure heading out into the wood in the direction of the Vedican Keep.

"I guess I can part with afew of them...." Sighs Hanz. He tugs a cord and one of the baldrics he is wearing slams to the ground. "That leaves me with only the pickaxes, the hammer and a greatmace. But I am keeping the shields"

He then shakes a large pouch on his belt, "And as for healing, I have a potion to bring me back from death's door, and I have personally learned a decent healing ability."

Tylia simply smirks with a nod and continues walking out into the wood.

murmers in elven: "It was the shields that i was worried about...they will kill us all and slow us down....Druid he is not...Ohhh Laroon...give me patience."

common tounge: "we will mostly need those healing ....and nice to know for future reference...I too...can heal and bless...keep your eyes in ...yes, i am a Druid but this Druid can bless..." Tylia fingers an object that looks to be like a leaf onto her ol bodice. "I can do other healings as well...I have extensive herbal knowledge that can either save us or hurt us."

"hmmm do you think when we break for camp you and Oro can teach me the dagger and how to fight with it?"

Orogom looks at Tylia in surprise and asks, "When did I give you a dagger? As I recall, you prefer your wooden sword. As for lessons...well...just swipe with it as though you had claws and you'll do fine." He loosens a long sword from his back and places it on his bed in his cabin. Closing the door, he falls in step with everyone as they begin to make their way out of the stronghold.

Orogom raises an eyebrow at Nox and quietly says, "I presume there is more to this than just carrying a message? Very well, though one would think a dream control...oh, right, sorry. Forgot for a moment. Not a problem, I will relay the message if you will do one small thing in return for me..."

Before waiting for a response, Orogom continues, "Please ask the Klor's Guild to work with Stark on constructing a new well for the tavern? He knows what I have in mind, so I'm sure that you will all be able to figure it out. I know it's asking much, but I'm sure you understand the need for it."

"Nothing much, Artha," Orogom replies lightly. "Just taking a nature hike is all...we should be back before this moon closes." Turning to the group, the Tryclops asks, "Everybody got everything? Nothing left to tend to? Everybody use the bathroom? I'd rather not stop!" Orogom smiles at everyone, but he is eager to get going and it shows.

Artha raises an eyebrow. "When you say nature hike, do you mean 'nice scenic walk in the woods', or more like 'hey, we're going to go say hi to one or more fantastic supernatural creatures?'"
The cloud-robed mage steps out, Stark's spare hammer still at his belt, closing the door behind him. "Mind if I come with? It's getting a bit boring around here with nothing blowing up in the past week." He says with a chuckle.

Orogom suddenly drops all pretense of being light-hearted and turns a serious gaze on the mage. Speaking softly so only those directly around them can hear, the Tryclops says, "I mean 'nature hike' as in some of us may not be coming back. If we are lucky, we will be avoiding the mind-flayer nest, but I doubt we'll be able to dodge the coven witches. Disregarding the fact that MOST people who venture into the area we are going are never seen again, it might be a good business venture for you and your family since we have to make a stop-over in the Vedican Stronghold. Why don't you accompany us that far, and when we get there you can decide if you want to go the rest of the way with us?"

Not waiting for an answer, Orogom quickly goes back to his cabin and grabs the sword he put in there, then rushes back to the group, hooking it cross-blade to the other long-sword on his back. He had reminded himself of the dangers just now, and the Tryclops recalled very vividly what he had done in the recent past that might make him a target for both of those groups he had mentioned and more.

Zeesa stands there now observing another member of the Stronghold willing to engage on journey......in an angered manner she responds...

"Alright I have had enough of this foolish behavior. Orogom, Hanz and Artha you ALL have sworn an oath to the Klor's guild to guard and protect a sacred magical item that is bound to each of you. I CAN NOT and WILL NOT allow the three of you to exit the premises of this stronghold with those items ESPECIALLY not to the WHISPERING FOREST. There is no reason for you to be venturing there considering we have already solved the shadow elf problem....you run the risk of jeopardizing this. This is my last warning to you and I implore you all to hold your honor. Should you decide to not heed my words I will be sure to take this matter up with Constable Morgan and Lord Elecsirt himself. Hanz winces and looks around quickly. Orogom whips his head around at Zeesa and holds her gaze for a minute. The fire dancing behind his eyes might be taken for anger, but then he suddenly breaks out into a wide grin and grabs Zeesa, pulling her into a hug. He whispers into her ear, "Remind me to kill Tylia later."

Going over to the note he had hung, he rips it down and starts heading back to his cabin. Just as he's about to enter he says, "Oh, and Ty...next time you are going to pull me away for selfish motives like that, come armed with an actual bribe as my services are no longer free to you." He enters his cabin and the sounds of him disarming some of his heavier weaponry can be heard before he reappears and heads down to the tavern without another word to the group.

Artha blinks at Zeesa's comments, then facepalms. "Right. My apologies, m'lady." He then points to Hanz. "Also... yes. As much as Hanz saying anything involving being quiet is simply ASTOUNDING, he has a point."

Artha heads off towards the Tavern as well, trailing Orogom a bit, but eventually catching up. "Hey, about the Well. When you say it's broken, is it just dried up and in need of something being broken to fix it... or just broken?"

Orogom leads the way into the tavern and sits behind the bar, his knees cracking. He looks at Artha and says, "There is only a thin vein of water that runs under the Stronghold. The tavern has been moved several times over the years, requiring that we tap different offshoots of the vein. This tavern has been here for quite a while, and the offshoot of the main vein that we tapped for this one was weak to begin with. It was only a matter of time before the well ran dry, but don't worry, because I've set Stark to the task of providing a new water delivery system to the tavern."

Orogom looks at the mage and says, "My turn to ask a question." The Tryclops sits back and thinks a moment before asking, "Where does magic come from? I mean, is it an inherent ability that causes a person to act as a conduit for some unseen power, or is it more an ability of the individual to affect and/or change reality in their general vicinity?" Orogom smiles benignly at the mage while awaiting a response.

"Listen guys I just want to say sorry for yelling at you but I hope that you can understand that not only do I care about the safety of those possessions but also for your well being........The whispering forest is a terrible place........" Zeesa trails off in thought as she takes a swig of the ice cold ale.

Orogom reaches in back and pulls out a root ale and passes it to Zeesa while asking her, "Did you not think that the only reason I was going was because I thought it of dire importance? I guess in her mind it is, but I guess it's my fault for not prying harder for details. Let's just say that I, for one, am done with the wild-woman. Let her go annoy the Awthorns with her barking." Orogom reaches into his pocket and pulls out a bridge of his own. Reaching back behind the door again, he pulls out another ale and tosses both coins into the cash bucket, then looks back to Artha and says, "Well? Do yuo have an answer to my question yet?" A mischevious smile plays across his face.

((OOG: Nothing personal, Tylia, but it is how Orogom would respond.))

"Interesting question." Artha says, rubbing his goatee, a smile on his own features now that he actually has a chance to talk about his field. "To me, magic is a science. There are hidden powers in the world around us... the elements, perhaps, or perhaps simply magic lives within all things, an invisible force. However, each magic-user calls to these powers differently."

He takes out his journal, and begins drawing a bit to illustrate his concept. It looks like a small cartoony version of a magic-user, with symbols all around him, one for each of the five known schools of magic. He goes to the firs, Arcane, and draws an arrow from the symbol to the person's hand, then makes it look like the hand is shooting a magical blast.
"First, mages. We know of these forces through study, and arguably know the most about their presence. We train in the use of a material focus, such as a staff or wand, to harness these powers. But you also need to learn the proper gestures and words that call to these powers, and harness them through the material focus, the combination of all the components producing a specific spell. The Arcane a fine science, one that requires hard work and study to master. To me, it's a science and an art, and studying it as such yields the best results. The Arcane method of magic is arguably the most powerful of the known five, because it allows for immensely more control over the magical forces. That's it's forte - control."

He goes to the next symbol, Divine magic, and draws a couple question marks near it. "Now, Divine magic is supposed to be based on faith in gods. However, I don't truly believe in them. I was raised on the concept of doing things with your own two hands, and getting powers from a god goes against all I know. I don't doubt the usefulness of Divine magic... but if you ask me, it's a cover up for some kind of "faith-science", and they just want to keep passing it off as god power. As a scientist, it's impossible to prove faith in itself, so Divine magic is a rather contradictory field to me."

Next symbol, Alchemy. He draws a potion bottle around the symbol, and draws many arrows going into it. "Alchemy is quite different from other magics. Instead of calling on that worldly energy through yourself, they take it from specific components which each have a specific form of energy within them. Combining these specific components in the right proportions produces a magical effect when someone drinks it. This requires just as much training as my field to master, and I believe it's the one that also proves my theory. If things in the world around us contain magical properties, then it proves that magic is all around us."

He moves to the Elemental symbol, and draws a bunch of arrows coming from all over and going into the symbol, including one arrow from the man. "Elemental magic is similar to Arcane magic, however to me the key difference is the way the two styles use that force of the world around us. While a Mage calls to the powers through himself, the Druid calls to the forces to directly act how they wish. While this gives a Druid less control, it also means they need only practice, not study. They must simply KNOW how the elements and forces mesh with each other, and which components they must call to create a desired effect."

Finally, the Sage symbol. He draws an arrow from the Sage symbol into the man's head, drawing the symbol again where a brain would be. "Finally, the art of the Sage. I envy Sages, like Zeesa there. They alone have the power of the worldly forces within them. They don't need to draw more power from the surroundings through materials, or through magical components... they themselves are a direct conduit of those magical forces, and by their will alone they force those powers to do whatever they wish it to. Their innate power surpasses any the other types of magic users could hope for, a fact that's simply remarkable."

Artha finally sets down his journal, showing it to Orogom. "Well? That's magic, in a nutshell. What do you think?"

While Artha is explaining magic to Orogom Zeesa turns to Hanz....."It will not be necesarry Hanz. I have known Tylia many of years and I have no reason to fear her. Tylia has alot of close friends in this stronghold and would not intentially do anything to harm anyone. She is a devoted follower of Laroon......and believes in nothing more then in the preservation of nature. Although some may disagree with what I just said.......I believe that she is simply misunderstood."

After finishing her statement she takes another swig of her ale.

Orogom listens intently as Artha explains, hiding his surprise at how clear and concise the mage has explained things. Yes, the Tryclops thinks to himself, this one has potential to be of invaluable help to us here...

Outwardly, Orogom says, "Interesting. So, by these definitions, schools like Shadow Magic and Dragon Magic are simply the channeling of the forces that give power to those? In other words, you need not be a dragon or have dragon ancestry to use Dragon Magic? I know it's probably not your area of expertise, but it's worth asking anyway." The Barkeep smiles as he reclines in his chair.

"A whole lot of talk about magic." Grimly states Hanz. "I for one still don't trust it, the only ones that should have the power you are thinking of Oro are the gods. The dragons got those powers and look what it did to them, it damn near wiped them out, and they were are smarter and more forward thinking than us. Point is, you give a human, elf, dwarf, or even a triclops that kind of power and you get yourself another Pernix. Get enough of them, and we'll have what happened to the dragons happen to us." He takes in some more water before continuing.

"Magic is power, power corrupts. Even if used towards noble purposes it still can cause trouble. I can heal others now, but I still worry about the idea of bringing people back from death's door." He finishes, waiting for others opinions.

Artha frowns at Orogom's question. "That... I don't know. I've never myself studied Hidden magics... they're known as the Hidden schools for a reason. However, assuming they are also magics that draw from the same worldly powers... then yes, theoretically anyone can use them. It would just require great skill and knowledge of how to make them work."

He then looks to Hanz... giving an oddly confident grin. Confidence is not one of Artha's strong suits. "Magic can only corrupt those who seek it for corrupt reasons. Magic is a science. It holds no good or evil. It's no different than your hammer, Hanz. On one hand a hammer can crush a man's skull... but a hammer also is the key to creating armor, shields... carpentry even. Magic just requires more practice to learn and master. And only those too weak to properly use it allow it to go out of their control. It's a tool, to be used for good or evil as the caster sees fit." Artha shrugs. "...at least as far as I know. Like I said, I'm unfamiliar with the hidden magics, they may come with their own fine print."
Artha grins. "And speaking of learning and mastering, I finally perfected the channeling of a new spell. It's small, but I'm sure it'll be effective in a fight."

Allowing Artha to finish his thought Zeesa jumps in to add a response to Orogom's question........

"Artha is correct. The hidden magics can be wielded by any race however the manner in which these magics are taught are completely different. These magics are not simply scribed out in dusty old tomes.....these are intrinsic skills that can only be taught to you by one who has mastered the particular school. Aside from that it would be an extremely rare case for a Master to even look at someone who is not well versed within any school of magic.....so it would also be safe to say that in order to be taught these schools of magic you must first be a spellcaster yourself. Artha you are correct in saying they are hidden for a reason.....as I know of it.....overuse of those schools of magics can have adverse effects on you.....almost like they turn you after a while. Most people in history have shunned those that cast from these schools of magics for many reasons.....the obvious one being that those of evil nature tend to harness those energies....and two when they are cast, as you all know, they tend to effect more then one target at a time be it friendly or foe. From my own personal experience the best advice that I could give to someone who is interested in learning any of the three hidden schools of magics......is to do as much research as possible about them to be sure it is definitely something you want to be involved in."

Orogom smiles at Hanz and says, "Artha is right. This may be the fact that I've lived a long time, but I really do not believe in the concepts of good and evil as forces unto themselves. There are those who commit acts that people deem evil, and indeed these acts may involve heinous aspects that no mortal really should contemplate, but such things are only evil because people have labeled them as such. For example, most might say that killing is wrong, yet we in this stronghold and especially the guardsmen are responsible for how many deaths? How much blood has soaked into the grounds here because of our blades? Was our responsibility for those deaths good or evil? It simply depends on which point of view you are seeing it from."

Turning to Artha and Zeesa, he says, "Well, the pursuit of power has always been a minor hobby of mine, but I must admit that I do not have the patience for studying magics..." Orogom locks eyes with Zeesa for a few seconds and seems to tell her something wordlessly.

Laurelin listens from outside the tavern shaking her head, the conversation worrisome to the elf. Nevermind that there are actually four more sources or types of..., more importantly they are hidden magics because they should remain so, she thinks to herself. Rather than debate the matter, she decided instead to simply wait outside and listen for the approach of those who should not hear the conversation inside. Perhaps being a druid has taught me temperance in the pursuit of unnatuaral magics... Admittedly, the mage's take on the Arcane school was interesting... worth understanding, even if his ideas on the elements was a tad... skewed. The druid smiled and redirected the attention of her eyes and ears to the surrounding area.

"They haven't even noticed ..."
(Tylia throws a rock into the spring and watches the ringlets disperse in the water...her frustrations and disappointment has turned into anger....this allowed and fueled the animal within her...Tylia realized this and clamped a tight Elven hold onto her inner cage to make sure it doesn't come loose...Tylia then started to meditate to calm herself...)
'why did they stop?' she thought.

(Tylia being so far out into the forest already didn't know why they suddenly stopped...she only heard a few words...like)
"bound magical item" and "personal involvement"...
( Tylia just couldn't understand )
..."what personal involvement?" she whispered...
(Tylia tossed another rock into the spring and sighed...Didn't she tell them that she was ordered there by both Lords? she had to have told them...it was not a secret.. both lords wanted to know more on the Shadow Elf movements to see what was happening...then perhaps if there was time she would try to discover what was happening with her brethren...)
(Tylia sighed again and gotten up to continue her journey to the Vedican keeping to the forests and staying as silent as possible.)
(while she continued to walk she started to think about this new piece of the puzzle she had...a bonded magic item? granted she had once given her blood to make sure that the standing stone within the Druids Circle would stay inactive...does that make her bound to it? she didn't think so that would mean perhaps someway the others have somehow bound themselves to a magical item....if that was the case they may be in danger...but if they do not tell her these things she could not help...)
(now she approached the source of the stream....a waterfall coming out of a rock face that she would have to climb)

In Elven: Laroon, please help the others while i am away. Perhaps it would be wiser to leave them be and to never return? Perhaps that is what Laroon is trying to tell me.'

(it was here that Tylia took a dead tree limb and tossed it into the stream and watched it floating down the spring with a tear coming down...with that she turned and started to climb and disappeared out deeper into the wood. towards the Vedican Stronghold.)

Replying to Hanz Zeesa states "Ah Nox, he had other matters to take care of and took his leave a long while ago......."

Turning to Artha Zeesa replies...."Young mage I would be willing to quench your thirst for knowledge regarding the hidden schools of magic......perhaps by the end of the moon we can find some time meet with one another and go over it all???

Eliora continues to watch and listen to the group for a few moments with a shrug.

"Zeesa, whenever you're free and are willing to give a few lessons on elven and drow let me know. Not necessarily right now, just whenever."

Orogom stands and says, "I'm going out for a patrol. Does anybody want a drink?" He waits for and serves any responses, then heads out the door and sees Laurelin. Giving her a smile and a nod, he moves on in the direction of Sanctuary, then the cave. Only quickly glancing at things to make sure that nothing major is amiss, he moves up towards the Druid's Circle. Reaching the far back of the circle, he softly calls out, "Dart?"

((OOG: Keith - if there is a response, please PM it to me))

"I'd like that. Thanks." Artha replies, smiling.

(It has been a few days since the Avitars orders and Tylia's new course took her to a place she has never been.
Even then, Pelezar is not the whispering forest Tylia kept to the wood. only breaking to eat or sleep in the trees or under bushes or in found caves.)

(She was still cautious...)

in elven: I wonder if Dart being .....what he is would have info on the cross breeding? I will have to ask him if and when i return. (then Tylia rolled her eyes.) If and when i can ever find him...or perhaps he will one day find me instead?
(Tylia shrugged at this latest ...and guffawed chastising herself for talking to herself.)
