Clarification of the Dimension Door spell:
Following game this past weekend a question concerning the Dimension Door spell came up. The question was this: “Can one use a DD spell to enter a cabin or place that they cannot necessarily see (i.e. the other side of a door)? The answer to this question is “yes.” A person implementing this spell could enter a cabin or the other side of a door etc without being able to see the other side. Using simple deductive reasoning would suggest that a person using the spell to enter a cabin would more than likely just DD to the other side of the door where in most cases the area on the other side is free of obstruction(s). Additionally, this holds true when employing the spell at night time, which ironically was why the spell was altered from its original definition. If one had to see exactly where they were going as the original definition suggests, the spell would more or less be useless at night time since most of us cannot see in the dark. With that said the definition was supposed to be changed in the 5.5 rules but was overlooked. In short, this was a clerical oversight by me personally. Since the question has come to light, I have updated the rule book to include a general clause that may overrule the previous definition. The general clause is written “in most cases.” Although this may not suffice as an exact clarification to the overall definition it is the one we will go with until further notice. Since no player currently has the spell, it shouldn’t be too much of a inconvenience. Moreover, in cases where NPC’s are utilizing the spell, I will make certain the spell is used appropriately ensuring the overall continuity of game play.
Both Mages and Alchemists that learn the spell dimension door will be able to move from their current position up to 100-feet away. In most cases, characters will need to visually see their destination at the time they are casting this spell. Characters will need to use their component and state their spell derivative while dropping a white glow stick upon the ground. Players within the surrounding area of this spell will need to act as though they do not know where an individual disappeared too.
